Heading Home is lucky enough to have 3 raised garden beds at our emergency family shelters in Greater Boston, and corporate partners have the opportunity to install some starter veggies, herbs and other planters as desired! Our clients and their children have enjoyed the activity of watching plants grow and tending to the garden, only to reap its tasty rewards at the end of each summer season. With COVID interrupting learning as usual, clients’ children may have an especially rewarding time tending to a garden this summer and learning to cook from its bounty.
Other chores may include: light-landscaping, trash pickup, planting (flowers, grass, etc.), weeding, decorating (install planters, raised garden bed or outdoor activity for residents) and raking.
Pending social distancing requirements, Heading Home will allow no more than 3 volunteers on-site with no indoor access to the family shelters (i.e. no bathroom access). This project will be available (we hope!) by July 1st based on recommendations for reopening from the MA Department of Health.
