The Changing Face of Homelessness

Families are now the homeless population’s fastest growing segment.  On any given night in Greater Boston, more than 7,000 people are homeless, including 3,000 children.

Heading Home is dedicated to solving this crisis and providing solutions. Our mission is to end homelessness in Greater Boston by providing a supported pathway to self-sufficiency that begins with a home, together with critical services such as life skills, financial literacy, and job training.

Learn More about Heading Home

Since 1974, our approach has been to provide a spectrum of services that address the unique needs of each client so that permanent housing can be obtained as quickly as possible. Our programs work:

  • 2,500+ clients served annually
  • 230  families placed into permanent housing last year
  • 90% client retention rates in our permanent housing programs

“Since July 1, I’ve helped more than 25 families secure housing.  Most recently, one of my clients secured housing and will be moving out of a hotel, just in time for her daughter’s 3rd birthday.”
-Katie Bryant, Case Manager

“We take pride in our small, home-like environments, and an intensive staffing pattern that enables people to get the help they need in a dignified manner. It is difficult to fall through the cracks in our programs. People are known and they matter.”
-Tom Lorello, Executive Director

“If it weren’t for Heading Home, I wouldn’t have my daughter with me now.”
-Vickie, Heading Home client
