The Changing Face of Homelessness

Families with children remain the fastest growing segment of the homeless population.  There are an estimated 4,100 homeless families Massachusetts alone, including 840+ families who are living in motels.

Heading Home is dedicated to solving this crisis and providing solutions. Our mission is to end homelessness in Greater Boston by providing a supported pathway to self-sufficiency that begins with a home, together with critical services such as life skills, financial literacy, and job training.

Join our community of almost 1,000 other volunteers who are making a big impact the lives of the people we serve. There are countless opportunities for getting involved as a group or individual volunteer.

Since 1974, our approach has been to provide a spectrum of services that address the unique needs of each client so that permanent housing can be obtained as quickly as possible.

Our programs work:

  • 1,800 clients served annually
  • 700 families placed into permanent housing since 2010
  • 90% client retention rates in our permanent housing programs
  • 350+ new units of housing created since 2006

“Since July 1, I’ve helped more than 25 families secure housing.  Most recently, one of my clients secured housing and will be moving out of a hotel, just in time for her daughter’s 3rd birthday.”
-Katie Bryant, Case Manager

“We take pride in our small, home-like environments, and an intensive staffing pattern that enables people to get the help they need in a dignified manner. It is difficult to fall through the cracks in our programs. People are known and they matter.”
-Tom Lorello, Executive Director

“Heading Home has helped me gain stability.”
-Nicole, Heading Home client

“Heading Home is always there. They have a path to help you get from point A to point B.”
-Dorise, Heading Home client
