Fenn School Up & Out 2021
Thank you to everyone in the Fenn School community for your support!
For many years, the Fenn School community has volunteered with Heading Home by hosting an “Up & Out,” an event where volunteers end the homelessness of a family living in Heading Home shelters.
The volunteers hand-select furnishings, decorations, and household goods for the family’s new apartment, and set up the apartment so that it is move-in-ready and feels like home. At the end of the day, the family arrives at their new home and meets the volunteers who helped make the move-in so special. It is a powerful, emotional, and moving experience that Fenn School volunteers return year after year to participate in, and help disrupt the cycle of homelessness for families in Boston.
This year, the Fenn School community will not be able to host an “Up & Out” in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but we still recognize that homelessness does not pause during a pandemic. People living in Heading Home shelters need our support now more than ever, and we want to help.
Meet our Heading Home Family: Karla (Mom) and her 1-year-old daughter, Kayli, will be making the monumental move from shelter this May! Just 5 days after giving birth in January 2020, Karla and her daughter moved into Heading Home’s emergency shelter program, which means that Karla and Kayli have never had their own home together as a family since Kayli’s birth.
When asked what they most are looking forward to? Memories, building bedtime routines like bath time and story time in their own home.
Please join us in making their house a home by shopping for household goods from the Fenn School Up & Out Target Registry or donate below:
