Northern Bank Donates Family Meals to Heading Home Shelters

Longstanding supporters of Heading Home, Woburn-based Northern Bank & Trust Company found a meaningful way to support those most significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially when food insecurity continued to rise. Massachusetts reported the highest increase of residents facing hunger in the nation and the rate of children facing food insecurity increased by 102 percent since the beginning of the pandemic. Determined to alleviate this issue for men, women and children experiencing homelessness, Northern Bank decided on a creative solution: deliver weekly hot meals to Heading Home shelters in Cambridge and Medford by partnering with local restaurants: Rebel Restaurants, Tavern in the Square, and ReelHouse.

Northern Bank’s kindness and thoughtful consideration to donate meals to families living in a congregate, multi-family, shelter meant so much to Heading Home clients – feeling supported by the community, looking forward to a delicious meal after a long day, and the sense of relief knowing their family will be fed. “I’d come home to cooked meals that were delicious, and I wouldn’t have to worry where dinner was coming from or preparing it after a long day,” shared Erin, who lives in the Medford shelter with her 3-year old son, “your kindness was a gift beyond measure.”

On behalf of everyone at Heading Home, thank you, Northern Bank & Trust Company, for your compassion and generosity, especially in these critical times. We are so very grateful for all that you do to support clients move through and out of homelessness.
