8  shelters serving 47 families total. Families are provided with intensive support in a safe, home-like setting while they work to address the root cause of their homelessness. Among these is our Boston Family Shelter, established 34 years ago as the Commonwealth’s first family shelter.

An emergency shelter with capacity for 21 individuals that serves more than 85 men and women annually in a sober living environment.

“Scattered-site” is a term to describe public-subsidized apartments scattered throughout an urban area. Heading Home’s “scattered-site” apartments include housing for families receiving our supportive services.

If you are a homeless individual seeking emergency shelter, please contact our Cambridge Shelter at 617.547.1885.

For families seeking shelter: You can apply for shelter with a DHCD worker at the nearest DTA office. DHCD will approve or deny you within seven days. DHCD must approve or deny you right away if your health or safety is at risk or if you have nowhere at all to stay.
