Danielle M. Ferrier Named New CEO of Heading Home

CHARLESTOWN, MA – June 15, 2017 – The Board of Directors of Heading Home. Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Danielle M. Ferrier as Chief Executive Officer, effective July, 5, 2017. A leading nonprofit in ending homelessness in Greater Boston, Heading Home serves nearly 1,600 homeless and formerly homeless people annually through housing plus complementary supportive services focused on housing stability and economic mobility.

Ms. Ferrier brings to Heading Home deep experience in the social service field, as a trauma clinician, past CEO and, most recently as the Deputy Commissioner of Clinical Services and Program Operations at the Massachusetts Department of Children & Families (DCF).  While at DCF, she worked on policy development, and program and system re-design in an effort to enhance the services provided to children and families. In addition to her work at DCF, Ms. Ferrier served as Vice President at JRI, CEO/President of Rediscovery, and in clinical roles at several organizations including Children’s Charter, Key Program, Inc., and Solutions for Living. Ms. Ferrier earned her Master of Business Administration from Simmons School of Management and her Master of Social Work from Boston University.

“I am honored to take the role of CEO at Heading Home” said Danielle. “I have a deep connection to the mission of Heading Home and look forward to leading the organization into its next phase.”

Early in 2017, Chief Executive Officer Tom Lorello announced his intention to step down from his role at the end of the fiscal year to pursue other personal and professional opportunities. Mr. Lorello joined Heading Home in 2003 and under his leadership the organization quadrupled in size and shifted its focus from providing emergency services to developing permanent, supportive housing. Mr. Lorello also oversaw the organization’s emergence as one of the Boston area’s largest providers of housing for homeless families. Lorello says he is “pleased to welcome Danielle to Heading Home and confident that under her leadership the organization will continue to thrive and serve some of the most vulnerable in our community.”

Heading Home’s Board of Directors, led by Co-Chairmen Andy Hoar and Brian Kavoogian, conducted a comprehensive search process involving many of the organization’s partners and supporters. “Tom lived and breathed Heading Home’s mission for 13 years and we deeply appreciate his contributions to our mission. Danielle has the skillset to ably lead the organization during our continued growth and evolution,” said Mr. Hoar. Mr. Kavoogian added, “We continue to see tremendous needs for our services. The slope our clients must climb to get into permanent housing is steep in today’s Boston housing market. Danielle understands the unique challenges and often complex circumstances of our client population, and has the compassion and experience to be a strong advocate on their behalf.”
