JOB TITLE: Senior Housing Placement Specialist

REPORTS TO: Program Manager
STATUS: Full Time, Exempt

SUMMARY: The Senior Housing Placement Specialist provides housing assessments, housing searches and placement services for families living in Heading Home’s emergency shelter programs.


• Complete new and six-month assessments for all families living in Heading Home’s emergency shelter programs to identify housing needs and preferences
• Work together with case manager and program coordinators to address families’ housing needs
• Provide assistance to clients moving to permanent housing throughout housing vouchers (i.e. Section 8, Tenant-Based, MRVP, etc.), market rate, out-of-state programs, transitional housing programs (among others (through all phases of their housing search and lease up
• Assist clients in completing and submitting HomeBase applications
• Safely maintain updated client records at all times
• Set-up and attend apartment viewings, meeting with landlords or property management companies, inspections, lease signings and other housing appointments as required
• Develop and maintain a directory of affordable housing options from local housing authorities to private landlords
• Advocate on client’s behalf during appeals, denials and landlord negotiations
• Work together with other Heading Home’s programs to facilitate access to resources that will promote housing stability in the community, such as moving assistance, rental start-up, utility assistance and setup, furniture and household goods
• Develop and facilitate clients’ workshops on relevant topics such as HomeBase process, Housing Search, Tenant Rights, among other topics
• Work together with the Development Team in the coordination of the Lorello Up & Out program for families moving out of emergency shelter
• Produce outcome reports and support Program Manager tracking weekly snapshots
• Attend weekly supervision sessions and staff meetings
• Attend to other meetings and training as required by program Manager
• Other duties as determined by Program Manager


• Associate’s Degree plus two years of human service experience
• Relevant experience in residential leasing experience & familiarity with Fair Housing regulations/guidelines preferred
• Knowledge of residential property management policies and procedures
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Computer proficient, particularly on Microsoft Office
• Self-motivated; ability to work independently and proactively
• Experience in case management and/or housing advocacy is required
• Experience providing direct service to diverse populations including people using substances, people experiencing homelessness, people with mental health expression and sexual orientation
• Must be able to occasionally ascend/descend stairs up to three or more sets, frequently move equipment weighing up to 15Lbs, must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
