Economic Mobility Specialist

LOCATION: Dorchester, MA

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Program Manager.

STATUS: Full time, Exempt.

OVERVIEW: To assist in the delivery of Career Readiness programming within Heading Home’s Family Services.  This person will work in close collaboration with the Economic Mobility Program Manager as well as Family Services staff to ensure that participants are making progress towards economic self-sufficiency. This is a 1-year assignment.


  • Conduct participant intakes to determine possible needs
  • Assist participant in developing career goals and create action plans for achieving them
  • Assist participant in establishing their job search process
  • Refer participant to outside partners to help fulfill participant’s goals, if service is not provided by Heading Home programming
  • Work with Client to help identify any barriers to receiving/keeping employment (i.e., childcare, healthcare, housing, immigration issues, legal issues, etc.) as well as provide resources where/when available
  • Assist in creation, planning curriculum development and implementation of on-site career readiness programming
  • Collaborate with program manager, case managers, and other specialists to develop a comprehensive plan for participants to attain goals


  • 1-3 years of social services experience, preferably with the homeless population, and knowledge of relevant resources
  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience
  • Previous career counseling experience
  • Ability to multi-task, strong organizational skills, time management skills, exceptional oral and written communication skills, and results oriented
  • A valid Massachusetts driver’s license in good standing and access to a car
  • Must be able to occasionally ascend/descend stairs up to three or more sets, frequently move equipment weighing up to 15Lbs, must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Some evening hours and weekends are possible, candidate should be flexible
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
