Danielle Ferrier, MBA, LICSW

Chief Executive Officer

Danielle has more than 25 years of experience in the human services industry in addition to holding two master’s degrees: Master of Business Administration from Simmons School of Management and Master of Social Work from Boston University. She was most recently the Deputy Commissioner for Clinical Services & Program Operations at the Department of Children & Families. Danielle holds the highest level of independent licensure in social work (LICSW) and was a practicing clinical therapist for 15 years. Her training and primary practice is with “high-risk” children, youth and families with a clinical specialty in trauma and attachment. Danielle’s programs at Rediscovery specialized primarily with “aging out youth,” and unaccompanied homeless youth. Additional areas of professional interest and experience include early childhood development, dyspraxia and autism. Three years ago, Danielle developed an innovative program, YouthHarbors, which is based in high schools and designed to prevent unaccompanied high school students from becoming homeless or to rapidly house these youth when they are homeless. Danielle has served on many task forces designed to evaluate and address the issues facing homeless, unaccompanied youth and youth involved in state care. 

Danielle has taught at the Boston University School of Social Work in the Policy Department and provided expert consultation on cases related to the clinical impact of foster care and programs designed to work with young-parenting adults who have experienced trauma and substance abuse. She has trained nationally on topics related to homeless youth, education and youth aging out of foster care.


Lisa Schorr Kaplan

Chief Operating Officer

Lisa brings more than 20 years of experience in nonprofit management and performance measurement to her position at Heading Home. Most recently, she spent five years as the Director of Impact Assessment at the Bridgespan Group, a nonprofit advisor and resource for mission-driven organizations and philanthropists. Her extensive nonprofit experience also includes leadership positions at Pine Street Inn, City Year, and Project HEALTH (now Health Leads). Lisa received her MBA from Harvard Business School. As COO of Heading Home, Lisa oversees all internal operations, ensuring the implementation of our vision and goals throughout the organization.

Elsa Cipriani

Director of Family Services

Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Elsa matriculated in Ecuador and came to the United States in 2006. Over the past decade, she has worked with a rich diversity of organizations, ranging from local governments to community-based human service agencies. Elsa’s main professional focus has been in program design, implementation, evaluation and the management of successful cross-functional teams. Prior to joining Heading Home in July 2016, Elsa was director of planning council support at the Boston Public Health Commission. Prior to that, she served as manager of outreach and community programs at Southern Jersey Family Medical Centers. Elsa holds a BA degree in Economics from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador and an MPA degree from Strayer University.

Mayté Antelo-Ovando

Director of Individual Services

Mayté Antelo-Ovando brings expertise in non-profit organizations, educational reform, and psychology to her position. She has more than 10 years of experience that includes school psychology, international and community-based nonprofit organizations, and arts advocacy. Mayté spent four years at Heading Home as Director of Education and Consultation, prior to transitioning to the position of Director of Individual Services. She is responsible for overseeing programs that provide supportive services to individuals experiencing homelessness or who are in our permanent supportive housing programs.

Mayté holds a Master’s in Education Policy and Management from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in School Psychology and a Masters of Science in Educational Psychology from Northeastern, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Texas.

Leora Kimmel Greene

Director of Development

Leora has spent the last twelve years working in the non-profit community. An avid fundraiser, community builder, and event planner, Leora brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to Heading Home. Originally from Ottawa, Leora moved to the States in 2009. Prior to joining Heading Home, Leora served as the Development Officer for Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters where she helped expand the organization’s engagement of young professionals and nearly double attendance to the annual gala. Leora received her M.S. in Communications Management from Simmons College. Leora is responsible for the Development Department strategies, including overseeing all fundraising and volunteer operations.

Alex Burns

Senior Director of Finance

Alex brings extensive financial and accounting knowledge to his role as Senior Director of Finance at Heading Home. Originally from Maine, Alex holds a BSBA in Accounting from Bryant University. Most recently, Alex spent more than four years as Manager of Accounting for the YMCA of Greater Boston. Alex has experience working in Public Accounting Firms conducting both audit and tax services to a variety of industries. At Heading Home, Alex is responsible for overseeing the financials of the organization. He describes himself as a mission-focused financial professional dedicated to supporting local communities.

Andrew Hoar, Co-Chairman


Andy Hoar serves as the President and Co-Managing Partner of CBRE/New England, a joint venture between Whittier Partners Group and CBRE. A 30-year commercial real estate veteran, Andy began his career with Leggat McCall before joining CBRE/New England in 1991. As President and Co-Managing Partner, Andy leads a team of more than 400 real estate professionals including leasing, financing, management, and sales specialists for all commercial property types. Andy has personally arranged over 700 lease transactions throughout the New England region. He was recognized by the Greater Boston Real Estate Board as the 2001 Broker of the Year, by CoreNet Global as the 2008 Real Estate Advisor of the Year and by NAIOP Massachusetts with the 2012 President’s Award for Charitable Service.

Throughout his career, Andy has been consistently recognized as one of the top senior professionals in the commercial real estate industry due to his exceptional level of professionalism, value-add approach, diligent focus on client service and his tremendous sense of integrity. Andy brings a high level of understanding to numerous philanthropic organizations including Franciscan Children’s and Heading Home, a non-profit organization focused on ending homelessness throughout the Greater Boston area. Andy is a graduate of Denison University. He resides in Wellesley, Massachusetts with his wife Mandy and daughters Katie, Hannah and Maddie.

Brian Kavoogian, Co-Chairman

Brian Kavoogian is the founder and President of Charles River Realty Investors, a private equity real estate investment firm that employs the extensive operating and investment experience of its team to make value-added real estate investments on behalf of its
institutional clients in a closed-end fund format. Charles River is affiliated with National Development, one of metropolitan Boston’s largest real estate operating companies. Charles River and its principals have successfully acquired and/or developed over 20 million square feet of real estate with a value of over $4 billion. The firm is currently investing its fully discretionary Fund III, which provides the firm with capital to complete $1.5-2.0 billion of new investments. Our investors consist primarily of endowments, foundations, pension funds, and family offices. Charles River invests in well-located commercial real estate in which value can be created at the property level through the re positioning and redevelopment of under-performing, undermanaged and/or under-capitalized real estate as well as selective ground-up development throughout New England, with a particular focus on the Boston metropolitan area. The firm invests in office, multi-family, industrial, life science, health care and hospitality related properties.

He is a Trustee of Tufts University and a member of the Board of Advsiors of the Tisch College at Tufts University. Brian also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Greater Boston YMCA, is an Overseer of Newton-Wellesley Hospital, a member of the Partners
Healthcare System, Inc. Corporation and a Director of Heading Home. In 2015, he was appointed by Governor Charlie Baker to the board of the Massachusetts Development Finance Agency.
